Norma and her husband, Byrd Grady, have been married for 38 years. They live in Goldsboro, North Carolina on a working farm in the country. They have three children---two daughters and one son, who has two daughters of his own.
Norma says, “everything good ‘they say’ about grandchildren is correct!” She also seems pleased to be an “empty nester” but maybe that’s because all three of her children live nearby which according to her “is lovely because I can see the granddaughters whenever I like.”
When asked about retiring from her 30 years of work with the Social Security Administration, Norma reflects, “Retirement---yes, I consider it. I am thinking maybe the end of 2007 or the end of 2008.” But, she continues to add, “I probably need to have a part-time job lined-up first because I have had the structure of work for so long that being without it might not be easy.”
There seems to be much discussion about retiring and the possibilities of retiring among the Class of ’67. Perhaps if Norma can fit this summer’s class reunion into her busy work and farm schedules, her classmates can provide some opinions about the pros and cons of retiring. We do hope to see you there Norma. In the meantime, for a little more about Norma’s life in eastern North Carolina click here for her message on the “Roving Rebel Reporter – “He’s A Rebel” page.
P.S. Norma’s favorite all-time song from the 60’s is Percy Sledge’s “When a Man Loves a Woman.” Stop “Unforgettable” and click Percy’s “Play” button above to hear it.
