Rick was born in Atlanta and moved to Cullman, Alabama in 1954.
Moved to Jones Valley in time for the second half of the 3rd Grade with Alunda Whitt at 5th Ave Elementary
Moved beside Huntsville Country Club later that year and went to Terry Heights with Jo Robinson sitting behind him in the 4th grade. Jo's past time was kicking Rick in the back.
Went to University Place School in 5th and 6th grade and Rison with Jim Caneer and Steve Stewart and Pat Cowart the 7th.
Westlawn in the 8th and 9th and as President of the Student Council relied on Kathy Register, Class Secretary, to run the meetings since he didn't know the agenda due to passing notes to Wendy Hall.
Rick's best memories of the 10th, 11th and 12th at Butler include Mrs. Mason for 10th English, Mrs. Woolf for 11th English, Ms. Culbreath for Advanced Math, swapping lunch, PE and study hall for golf practice; caddying for Arnold Palmer, sitting at Freddy Neil's house and listening to Mrs. Neil's views on life and people; listening to "You Didn't have to be so Nice" with Kathy Wrigley in the 11th; and getting recognition for doing a good job making the Caterpiller at "Alice's Ball" for the junior prom.
Not so nice were Fred Neil's accident, a bad grade from Mrs. Hill in chemistry, and getting up every day for 3 years at 4 am to bike 13 miles around a paper route before riding 3 1/2 miles to school (at least that is what he is going to tell his grandkids.).
Rick has done a lot of work in recent months using old Rebel's, Pendulums, Stars and Bars, Beacons and states that he marvels at how much work and dedication must have gone into documenting our Butler years from all involved and especially Norma Swafford and Harold Levie. Norma and Harold - if you are out there - please come to see us so we can say "Thank you" ! Also, Rick thanks Joan Brewer Walls, Rhonda Cochran Bass, Betty Cooper Dunn, Kathy Register Yarbrough, Susan Stephens Poos and Linda Trexler Crawford who have carefully saved and donated many pictures from days gone by. (Also to Anita Francis Batey and others on the committee - thank you!).
One of Rick's proudest accomplishments
was a 5-year project to turn a flat yard into a
3 acre botanical garden for his daughter's
wedding reception.
It turned out to be a Lovely Occasion
for the 450 Guests and for the
Lovely Bride and Groom
(and proud Father of the Bride).

Rick (second from right) still plays some golf. He was proud to be selected as one of four seniors (above)

Southeastern Ryder Challenges in 2004 in Naples, Florida.
